Rifle Range
The Old Newgate Coon Club has a multi-station, covered shooting facility located below the upper pond dam. Targets are set up from 20 feet to 100 yards for all types of shooting. The range is open all year and offers a great opportunity to enjoy sport target shooting, sighting in your favorite gun or just plinking. Recent upgrades include improved backstops, new shelves for members to work on their firearms, and a box of items commonly used including a staple gun and other necessary items for practice shooting. Several of our members have completed the NRA Range Safety Officer Course which adds to our knowledge of managing a safe shooting range. Our members have painted and improved upon the appearance and functionality of our shooting facility.
It is essential that we abide by safe practices as posted at the range. If you have a guest, it is your responsibility to ensure that they sign a waiver and abide by the rules of the range. Remember, alcohol and guns do not mix. If you are found to be drinking and shooting, you may be subject to disciplinary action by the directors up to and including expulsion from the club.
